‘Fables’ to be made into TV show

One of my favorite comics, Fables, is going to be made into a TV series on ABC! If you haven’t read Fables, it’s a dark story about fairy tale characters (the protagonists are Snow White and the Big Bad Wolf) being driven out of their homes by a mysterious, demonic adversary and forced to flee to our world. The first two trades are a little slow because they mainly serve to introduce the cast, but it really gets going in the third one and become completely addictive. Do be warned that the writer does have an occasionally maddening conservative point of view, particularly regarding women, but it invades the plot rarely enough that I rant a bit and then still enjoy the story.

I really, really hope that ABC is bringing on good writers, for of course it could all go horribly wrong. Like the Watchmen movie probably did, since it’s being released in the doom-time of March and because they ELIMINATED the giant squid!

Thanks to Eric for the link and Martini-Corona for introducing me to Fables in the first place.

  1. Sam says:

NO FREAKING WAY. Let the casting discussion commence! I want Ricky Schroeder for Little Boy Blue.

  2. Hisly says:

I hope they treat your happy comic right, UNLIKE I’m fearing they’re treating Watchmen. I will totally be first in line with pitchforks and torches. What are they going to do without the squid?! That ties into several plotlines!! grumble.

  3. Martini-Corona says:

Oh no! This is one situation where I’d much rather see a 1-shot movie. But I guess there’s too much back story to explain… I just hope it doesn’t turn out like that weird X-Men spinoff you sometimes see late at night on Fox. (Like 3 AM late at night.) (Does anyone else know what I’m talking about?)

Ricky Schroeder is too old now for Blue. But I demand Amy Adams as Rose Red.

  4. J.P. says:

There is economic downfall and all of you is discussing if Ricky Schroeder is fit enough ( who the duck is Ricky Schroeder?) to do some moves in front of a camera?
Mighty relevant to the rest of the world if I might say so.

Miriam, you ever read The Trigan Empire?

  5. Eric Wolff says:

Ahem, that’s Rick Schroeder to you hoi polloi. He abandoned the y when he went to NYPD blue.

Miriam and I are discussing this now. We’re thinking wants Hugh Jackman for Bigby, (Miriam prefers less clothing for him), Neal Patrick Harris for Jack, Nathan Fillion for Prince Charming, Gina Torres (Zoe from Firefly) for Cinderella, John Rhys-Davies (Gimli) for King Cole. OK, that’s all for now, gotta work.
